Weekend Getaway to Mexico

Weekend Getaway to Mexico

‘Here's to sunsets, sandy, salty kisses, quesadillas, tan lines, tacos, being a complete lightweight when it comes to margaritas, lazy afternoons, laughing at our silly little toddler, feeling reenergized emotionally (not necessarily physically - hah), feeling blessed, happy and thankful.

This spontaneous weekend showed me that it's so important to take time as a family to reconnect. We get told many times over how important it is to take time for you as a couple and as much as that is very true, it's also so important to take time out as a little family. Time to reset and time to reconnect. Family dynamics take on a certain form when you live your day to day lives. You start having your daily routines, which I love! (!), but you also need to be reminded of what it is means to live in the moment and be present - and it's a lot easier to be reminded of that when there are no computers that need to be opened, no dinners that need to be cooked, no work schedules or classes that need to be attended and no social arrangements need to be made.

And although we will go back to our lovely little routines tomorrow, we can do so with a full and thankful heart that is topped up with a few more memories that may help on those days that feel longer than normal.’

My recent Instagram post captured my heart in words when reflecting upon our little weekend getaway. With its bold colours, tropical paradise feel, fresh food and welcoming atmosphere, Mexico is one of those perfect little holiday escapes. We stayed in Punta Mita, 45min drive north of Puerto Vallarta. A tiny town with a handful of delicious restaurants and otherwise you're there to beach and relax, which is exactly what we were after. We ate at the following three restaurants and recommend all: Si Senor, Rosa Mexicana and Blue Shrimp.

Sayolita, 20 minutes north of Punta Mita, offers a bit more of a pulse. A gorgeous little hippie, surfer town with tons of personality. With its beautiful bay that is blessed with fun surfing waves year-round, and its array of shops, bars and restaurants, its no wonder that it is a melting pot for backpackers and travelers alike. It's colourful, laid back and friendly. Two eateries I recommend: The Real Fish Taco Stand and Don Pedros. Yum!

One of our mornings we ventured out to Las Marietas island to discover the famous 'hidden' beach, Playa Escondida. Although it would have been magical without the crowds, it was still pretty spectacular. Gracias Mexico! Until next time.
