Photo Project: 40 Weeks of Pregnancy

Photo Project: 40 Weeks of Pregnancy

Today I want to share a not so recent project of mine with you. One I unfortunately didn’t do during this second pregnancy, but had lots of fun with during my first. You’ll see many different variations of the weekly pregnancy photos (Pinterest will give you some great ideas) and although mine is by no means super creative, I wanted to share that it is do-able and fun.

Our little puppy Taj came into our lives when I was about 4 weeks pregnant with our first babe, so we always took one picture of just myself with my belly and one pictures of myself and Taji. Makes for a few funny pictures - especially towards the end of my pregnancy.

Here are some of my tips:

  • Pick an outfit that you can keep the same throughout your pregnancy. I picked a white shirt and black leggings.
  • Pick an angle from which you want to be photographer. Most mamas do it from the side but some also take pictures that show the top of the belly.
  • Pick a spot where you can take your weekly bump picture – generally a white wall is best. We picked our charcoal wall in our home but as we spent a bit of time traveling that year, there is not a hundred percent consistency unfortunately.
  • Get hubby/partner to be your photographer. Of course this can become tricky when that other person travels for work, which is certainly the case for us. In weeks that he was away, I would get a friend or even our cleaning lady to take the picture.
  • Stay disciplined and mark the weekly photoshoot in your agenda so that you do not forget.
  • After you’ve taken your pictures for the week, choose your favourite one and immediately transfer it onto your computer, name is ‘Week #’ and save it under your weekly bump project folder. It will help you stay organized!
  • Once baby was in our world and I had collected all the weekly photos, I created a large file on InDesign (one large image) with all the different weeks in order. For one image I added numbers and for the other, I left the photos to speak for themselves.
  • Have fun with it!

One additional little thing I did for my first pregnancy, was capture it in three different phases. The first phase being just having found out about the little peanut in my belly, the second phase being ready to pop and the third phase was holding little bubba in my arms. Here are the pictures for some additional inspiration.
